Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Gender inequality remains a persistent issue in many parts of Nigeria, limiting women's access to education, economic resources, and leadership opportunities. Digital media has emerged as a powerful tool for addressing such disparities by raising awareness, advocating for gender equity, and empowering marginalized groups. Platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube enable individuals and organizations to highlight issues of inequality, share success stories, and mobilize support for gender-focused initiatives. In Jega Local Government Area, Kebbi State, digital media can play a transformative role in challenging societal norms, promoting educational campaigns, and providing a platform for women's voices to be heard. Research emphasizes that digital media can accelerate progress toward gender equity by facilitating conversations and fostering collaborations (Usman & Zainab, 2024). This study examines the role of digital media in addressing gender inequality in Jega, focusing on its contributions, challenges, and impact.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Gender inequality in Jega manifests in areas such as education, employment, and political participation, perpetuated by traditional norms and limited access to information. While digital media offers a platform for challenging these issues, its adoption is limited by factors like low digital literacy, restricted access to the internet, and cultural resistance. This study explores how digital media can address gender inequality in Jega, identifying the barriers and potential solutions.
